Insert to a TEXT field using SPL

Hello All! I am trying to write a procedure that will insert to a TEXT field. I can create variables using the 'references text' clause, but I have been unable to figure out how to assign a value to them. The value is dynamic and needs to be passed into the procedure as a parameter. Any help would be appreciated.
