I-connect limitation

We are using VB with ODBC and I-connect 7.2 connecting to our Informix SE DB on SCO Unix. The problem is that we try to connect several db simultaneously for some queries but i-connect only allow one DBPATH. Thus only one db connection per pc configuration. I tried the SDK2.5 with I-connect 9.0, which is the same story. Does anyone know any product to replace I-connect that enable me to connect multiple DB? I know I could link all needed tables into one DB. But I am curious to see other products or work around. Thanks in advance. Jimmy Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
Hi, As far as i know, you don't have to enter a DBPATH on the PC if all your DBs reside in the same directory and the sqlexec demon on the SCO machine has the right DBPATH. I don't know (and don't want to know) much about the Win32 side of Informix connectivity, but on Unix you can use //server/path/to/database/dbname in the connect string to specify exactly which database you want to use. And DBPATH itself can have (on Unix) a number of entries separated by colons. I would imagine that on Win32, the analogous setting would allow multiple entries separated by semi-colons. > Does anyone know any product to replace I-connect that enable me to > connect multiple DB? Also, given that you are using SE on SCO Unix, you could control which databases are visible to the clients by setting the DBPATH appropriately for the sqlexecd when you start it on the SCO box - then the Win32 clients should only need to say //scobox/dbase1 or //scobox/dbase2, etc. You're right; you do not want to link all the tables into one database. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
