MEXICO'S NATIONAL TELEPHONE COMPANY STANDARDIZES ON INFORMIX TO FACE COMPETITION IN NEW OPEN MARKET Telmex Signs Corporate Site License Agreement, New Applications to Enhance Customer Service MENLO PARK, California (Oct. 16, 1995) -- Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of parallel processing database technology, today announced that Telfonos de Mexico (Telmex), Mexico's national telecommunications company, has signed a corporate site license agreement with Informix to standardize applications across its 6,000-user base and automate transactions to enhance the quality of its customer services in preparation for a new open market and new competition. Company undergoes profound changes to compete in open market Telmex, the largest private company in Mexico, will face competition when the Mexican telecommunications market opens up in January 1997. Standardizing on INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server will extend Telmex's critical applications to its 21 independent affiliates at more than 200 sites, streamlining operations across its 6,000-user base. Telmex's affiliates include Telcel, the largest cellular provider in Mexico, and Telnor, which serves the large northwestern part of the country. Telmex and Informix will develop and migrate more than 50 applications in human resources, finance, long distance, and customer service that will save time and reduce paperwork. Telmex will also manage its digital network using OnLine Dynamic Server and Informix tools. Modernization in Process Telmex has been dedicated to modernizing Mexico's phone system since it was privatized in 1990.
