Online 5.0 gets hung
Posted in 1994
Problem: We have an Online 5.0 system. The front-end menu is by JAM. Once inside the menu, the user has the choice of calling IQ, a report writer. When the user runs a report and chooses to print it to the PC printer, they get hung and eventuially disconnected from our network(DATAKIT). The disconnect problem has been ongoing and not especially vexsome. Until now. When the same user comes back into the system, and kicks off an sqlturbo process the whole instance is locked. Tbstat shows : 1)Process aborted abnormally 2)and the existence of a latch. 3)ps -ef shows the tbinit for that instance has increasing execution time If I am logged into the system and look at all three pieces of data described above, I don't see a process aborted, I don't see the latch and the tbinit has a normal( and not increasing) execution time. We know that there is a connectivity problem for users at that site, because the same report in IQ can be run at a different site and the problem doesn't occur. Add to that: if the report is printed to the screen or the range of dates used in the select criteria is made smaller the problem doesn't occur. I ran the select within a "here" document at the UNIX command line. No problem. Informix tech support has looked at the results of a "tbstat -a" and found nothing that looked out of place. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated, as I now have to ask the user to run the IQ report at night. Please e-mail, thanks! -- Do unto others ... then split. -- Mary Anne Stasium --
