Are you sure that the instance initialized nicely? Check the message log to ensure that the sysmaster database was
builded correct. If not, try to run $INFORMIXDIR/etc/buildsmi as user informix.
Happy New Year!
I finally managed to fix this problem "Segmentation Fault", i reallized
that if i use the server name in the sqlhosts file then for reasons
that i don't know am unable to run most of the commands (onspaces,
ontape, onmonitor etc), but if i replace the server name and actuall IP
address then everything works perfectly!!!
Now that everything is working and am able to create my spaces, can
someone explain to me why the first IDS installation was able to work
with the server name? and this second installation can only worki with
absolute IP address!!!!
Informix developers please assist on this one.
Thanks
Paul

Paul,
Post the relevant /etc/hosts, /etc/defaultdomain, /etc/nsswitch, and
/etc/resolv.conf entries for the server host and we'll try to figure out why
the IP address works but not the hostname. Usually it has to do with one of
the following:
- hostnames are are legal but which for some reason IDS doesn't recognize
due to special characters.
- hostname not including domain in a domain'ed environment
- dns lookup preceding /etc/hosts lookup and dns doesn't recognize an
unqualified (no domain) hostname
