Re: Deleting indexes during runtime

Doug, Before I get into your questions, I should let you know that I don't work with C-ISAM too much. However, the Informix Standard Engine is based on C-ISAM, so an answer based on experience with SE should work. First, your idea for deleting the indexes should work. I know that doing this with SE causex no problems. As far as marking deleted records, that would work too, provided you account for their presence when searching the DB. If you can bring the system down (say, on weekends) to do maintence, you could then delete all flagged rows without having the speed problems. If this is the case, I would recommend this solution over the first one. (One hint: if you do this, you might want to remove all indexes prior to the delete and rebuild them from scratch later; I should think that the delete would speed up nicely.)
