??? Opinions on ONCOFIG settings
Posted in 1998
We are not currently having any performance problems, but I am
interested in hearing some opinions from the experts out here.
One of our systems is as follows:
Sun SPARCcenter 2000E, Solaris 2.6, Veritas VM2.4
6 SPARCstorage Arrays 100's populated with 1gig and 4 gig drives
All data and indexes are spread across 158 1 gig drives.
512 meg memory, 10 cpu's
Informix 7.14.ud5, Informix mirroring
The system is 98% DSS. 99% of all inserts, updates and deletes done
through batch jobs approximately 2/3's of them run during off hours.
Largest table is 60 million rows of history. Next largest table only
5.6 million rows. Tables are fragmented primarily by round robin with
largest tables spanning 8 dbspaces. All indexes on largest tables are
detached and fragmented by expression across as many as 10 dbspaces.
Currently we have approximately 80 users with access to the database,
but typically we have at most 15 queries running at any given time.
Occasionally we may get as many as 25 queries peak.
These are some of our onconfig settings:
SHMVIRTSIZE 170000
SHMADD 30416
SHMTOTAL 0PDQPRIORITY 2
MAX_PDQPRIORITY 100
DS_MAX_QUERIES 20
DS_TOTAL_MEMORY 160000
DS_MAX_SCANS 100
PSORT_NPROCS is not set.
1. Given everything above, how would you configure these parameters?
2. In the near future, DSS queries is likely to double or triple,
would you set the parameters differently?
I am particularly interested in your opionions relating to decision
support variables and the best way to set PSORT_NPROCS variable.
Thanks in advance.
