I learned programming in BASIC about the > dangers of GLOBAL variables. I find GLOBALS useful for a number of things. In my current case I have a number of programs which use a common argument parsing function. Those command line arguments are so prevalent throughout all of the code that it has been quite useful to have them as GLOBALS. I have made a point of giving everything in that global file an upshifted named so FILENAME is instantly recognizable as a global. > > My pet hate is the GOTO statement, which I have NEVER used. I tend to agree, although I am not so virulently opposed, I will use a GOTO if I feel that it is appropriate rather than try to build a confusing loop to avoid one. > > Then there's SCROLL..... I considered using that one day while reading through the manual and then noticed that if I did my code was suddenly responsible for what was left on the screen.... My pet peeve (rev 8.7)? Actually its currently NULL*. (* as in the value, not the keyword) cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com _____________________________________________________________________________ Discover America, get lost on a rally. _____________________________________________________________________________ Any opinions expressed herein are my own and not those of my employers. _____________________________________________________________________________
