Hello, I need a very big dbspace (at least 15Gb) for my database (IDS 9.4) but the limit for a single dbspace is about 2Gb. How can I increase this limit? thank you
Have you activated big chunks yet?

No - the limit for a single chunk of a dbspace used to be 2GB, but you could have up to 2048 such chunks in your dbspace, for a total of 4TB. That applies in all versions prior to 9.40 - even OnLine 5.20 can manage a 4 TB database in a single dbspace. (Whether you'd want it to is a separate discussion.) Fortunately, though, you have IDS 9.40. You can create a single chunk up to 4 TB, and can have up to 32k such chunks, which is about 128 PB of data. That's quite a lot! So, depending on your disks, you can carve out a single chunk of 15 GB as the only chunk in your only dbspace, or you can split the stuff across several disks (or, if you're determined to undermine the performance, you can have multiple chunks allocated on a single disk). Note that things like LVMs (logical volume managers), RAID (not 5, please) and NAS or SAN complicate the story on performance. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2003.04 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
