RE: Upgrade gotchas?

Malc- I see that you're planning to install the 7.32 version of the tools. You need to be aware that all of the tools IBM uploaded to their PPA site on July 13th are suspect at best. All of the tools are mislabeled, and some of the tar files (4GL runtime 7.32.FC3, 4GL development and runtime 7.32.HC3) are unreadable after you figure out which ones you need and download them. IBM is aware of the problem and the PPA guys and the development guys are pointing fingers at each other, but (as of this morning) the problem remains. It may be useful if you were to download some of the products, verify that they are not usable, call tech support and apply a bit more pressure to get the PPA website straightened out. The 7.32.xC2 version of ISQL for HPUX has an issue with file locations. If you type the name of the SQl or form you want to run, it will tell you it doesn't exist. You can still navigate to it. This is supposed to be fixed in 7.32.xc3, which is why I've been trying to download that version of the tools. Something else we noticed, is that due to a change in the optimizer, if your 4GL program builds a table or temporary table and fills it, the program must execute UPDATE STATISTICS for that table before it will use any indexes you create on it. We only had to change a couple of programs, but it was a pain to figure out what was wrong. Otherwise we have found the 7.32.xc2 version of 4GL to be better than 7.31 and you also get a few added commands and functions. --EEM > -----Original Message----- > From: malc_p@btinternet.com [mailto:malc_p@btinternet.com] > Sent: Monday, August 08, 2005 8:34 AM > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Upgrade gotchas? > > Request for info / experiences please... > We're on HP-UX 11i and have tools (4gl (rds, idb & i4gl) and sql) at > 7.20, engine at 9.30.
