Ivan. I hope the following is helpful. I am going to post this to the newsgroup in case anyone else is interested in ER. - Bob Carts ---------- > From: Ivan Lopes Junior <ivanjr@painet.com.br> > To: 'rcarts' <rcarts@agccs.lmco.com> > Subject: RE: Enterprise Replication > Date: Tuesday, June 24, 1997 7:57 PM > > Hi Bob, > I read your message and I would apreciate your help as DBA that is using Enterprise Replication for some time. > > What is your platform? We are using Sun Sparc 20's running the Solaris 2.5.1 operating system. > Do you use update-anywhere scenario? Yes. Contrary to the way the Informix documentation presents the various scenarios, I believe that most implementations will use a mixture of update-anywhere and primary-target, as we are. > If yes, does the conflict resolution works fine?Do I have to do something to solve the problems? > How many tables do you replicate? And the volume of transactions? > Conflict Resolution "ignore" works fine. Replication changes are just applied as they arrive. Conflict Resolution "time stamp" has also tested fine. Everytime a replicated change arrives, ER checks the timestamp of the arriving change and compares to the existing timestamp of row that will be updated. If the change is older that the current row, the change is not applied. We are using timestamp conflict resolution, because it meets our requirements and it requires the least amount of operational care. (Remember to add CRCOLS if you want to use timestamp CR. I believe it adds about 8 bytes to each row). Conflict Resolution using stored procedures does work, however our testing shows that the stored procedure only fires if two replicated changes arrive at the exact same time. We were hoping that the procedure would always fire, like the way timestamp conflict resolution works. We have many servers, many tables and what I consider a moderate amount and size of transactions. I have agreed with our client not to go into specifics about the application. > Any aditional information will be welcome! > > Thank you very much > > Ivan Lopes Jr. > (ivanjr@pobox.com) > -- Bob Carts - SAIC rcarts@agccs.lmco.com 703-813-2914
