Re: Installing Online WS v.7.2 on SCO Open Server 5.0.4

Jeff, If you have a new disk or an existing disk, use the divvy utility to name and define an area on the disk. When all is said and done, you have actually "installed" the new division say "mine", Sco has created a block device and a character device for the division named /dev/mine for the block device, and /dev/rmine for the character or "raw" device. Set your permissions and ownerships for the raw device file to "666" informix, informix. Create a symbolic link to the device wherever you wish, and you'll make life easier for yourself in the long run (i.e. when your disk breaks down). Unless you're doing Raid, you should be using a maximum of 2 gigs starting from offset 0. Anything beyond that can get you into trouble. In your onconfig file, be sure to allow an offset of 10 - 20k for Sco, an go no farther than the 10 - 20k + x for a total of 2Gig rounded down to the nearest page boundary (pages in Sco are 2048 bytes). This is kind of sketchy and rough, but if you're familiar with Sco admin- istration and have a manual, you should be able to figure it out. My apologies. Others will probably fill in the gaps and correct my mistakes.
