ISQL and Too Many Files?
Posted in 1991
I'm working on a database with numerous small tables containing codes and code meanings (i.e. key=3, meaning=80386). I was merrily working along building an sace report (ISQL) when after I added one more coded table, the report compiled fine, but when I ran it I got the following error: Could not open database table (os) See error number -242 I checked the error in our ISQL ref manual which said, Check the C-ISAM error for info about the source of the problem. I suspect I've overstepped the limit on how many files can be open on our Intel Xenix system simultaneously. Has anyone hit this limitation before...how to get around it (and still retain my current table structure - and not have to combine all my little code tables in to mammoth, more complicated table)??? The offending SQL statement follows: SELECT tran_id, sent_status, entry_date, entry_time, poc_uid, poc_ddn_addr, line_type, poc_phone, hs_type, project_status, computer_type, cpu_type, os_name, os_version, app_sw, sw_version_major, sw_version_minor, sw_version_patch, compiler, c_version, msg_action, file_type, file_size, file_name, file_description FROM trans, pstatus, hs, comptype, action, cpu, os WHERE sent_status = "U" and trans.h_s = hs_key and trans.p_status = pstatus_key and trans.os = os_key and trans.cpu = cpu_key and action_type = action_key and comp_key = platform END Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! -- Greg Sheppard Internet: imop@wa-ngnet.army.mil (IMO Programmer) UUCP: ...sumax!polari!gcs Comm: (206) 581-8924 DSN: 355-7924 CIS: 75410,1066 --
