unicode

i want to be able to display an umlaut character, or load a field with a value that contains an umlaut character ( in this case an umlaut o character). first of all, can the datatype varchar hold the value or does it need a text or blob field to hold it. ( its basically a two byte field right). second, what terminal type do i tell dbaccess it is looking at to be able to see the darn thing? thanks!
