vt100 emulation on Mac
Posted in 1996
I am running an Informix based financial package, which absolutely requires function keys to operate, under HPUX 9.?, presently using an HP terminal emulating a Wyse 30 (!). Right beside it is my shiny new Power Mac, connected through Appletalk to a Novell 4.01 network, gatewayed to the HP host, among other places. On my Mac, I have a copy of NCSA Telnet 2.6, which allows me to get to the HP host and run Uniplex, an OA suite, when I get there. Function keys are emulated with escape-number combinations. I can also run Fetch, an FTP manager, through the network to the HP host, and operate on files reliably when I get there. Our financials will not accept function keys from Telnet, either directly or as an escape sequence. It would suit my purposes very well to be able to knock the HP terminals on the head, so if anyone has solved this one (connecting a Mac throught NCSA Telnet, by way of a Novell network to an Informix database application under Unix), please let me know by E-mail, or if it's really elegant, post it here.
