GRMBLLL the time spent on pissing off this guy could really be better
spent telling him
howto and then after that kindly refer him to the manual or
googling.....
assume you have installed it without setting up a demo instance.
env vars:
assume informix is installed in /opt/informix
assume your hostname = linuxprod
you must be user informix which is member of group informix
then:
export INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix
export PATH=$INFORMIXDIR/bin:$PATH
export ONCONFIG=onconfig.prod
export INFORMIXSERVER=ifx_shm
cd $INFORMIXDIR/etc/
cp onconfig.std $ONCONFIG
edit sqlhosts file
--------
ifx_shm onipcshm linuxprod ifx_shm_serv
ifx_tcp onsoctcp linuxprod 7777
--------
edit $ONCONFIG
decide where you want to put your rootchunk
assume /infdev/chunk1
so either create a raw dev or a file which is linked to /infdev/chunk1
or??
chown informix:informix /infdev/chunk1
chmod 660 /infdev/chunk1
change
ROOTPATH /infdev/chunk1make the ROOTSIZE 500000 or??
set MSGPATH to
/opt/informix/online.log
set LTAPEDEV and TAPEDEV to /dev/null for now until you undestand what
it does.
set DBSERVERNAME to ifx_shm
set DBSERVERALIAS to ifx_tcp
set DUMPSHMEM to 0 for now and all the rest of the params needs
configuring as well
this is read the manual....would suggest to do so since it's lousy
configured now
and you need to create dbspaces and tempdbspaces etc.
when all this is done:
oninit -ivy ---------->>>>>> only the first time!!!!!!! second timestart it using just oninit
wait until it's initialized :
onstat -mrwhen sysmaster and sysutils are build press control -c
to create a demo db:
dbaccessdemo7 <<!
N
!
access it: use dbaccess
See you
Superboer.
THERE IS ONLY ONE STUPID QUESTION:
that is the one which is not asked and can lead to disasters!!!!!!!!!

I really hate to break it to you, but typing in "RTFM" really was an awful
lot quicker. :o)

Bye now,

did i mention i like nulls? heck, i even go so far as to say that all
columns in a table except the primary key could/should be nullable. this
has certain advantages, for example, if you need to insert a child record
and you don't have a parent row for it, just do an insert into the parent
table with the primary key value (everything else null), and voila,
relational integrity is preserved. but this is, admittedly, a bit
controversial among modellers.
