New Alias and NETTYPE

Are there great performance increases to be had by changing the NETTYPE VP class for TCP/IP connections to the CPU class instead of NET? If I have certain applications that I would like to prioritize above others, apart from using PDQ priorities, would it help if I created a new server alias and corresponding new socket in sqlhosts and connect the application to this. Or would a new alias to the same service suffice? Please let me have your comments.
