To let you know the outcome etc and some of the things tried so that anyone with the problem in furture can try the solutions offered. We tried to drop the indexes but it just sat for 2 hours eating up CPU and not really doing anything, we then tried creating a table exactly the same with the same index details etc and then copied the dummy index file over the original index file and then ran bcheck but still no avail. Eventually we just restored the backup file and replaced the disk as it was identified as a possible hardware issue by our engineers.
