ESQL/COBOL question

Another question from a novice without the right manual. I am using ESQL/COBOL V6.0 with a V5.0 manual, until Informix send me the correct manual. I have successfully, seemingly, precompiled and compiled some programs and have connected to my database. However when I execute the following SQL statement I get a -674 error referring to ats.nvl. EXEC SQL SELECT ROWID INTO :VAR1 FROM TABLE WHERE COL1=NVL(:VAR2,' ') AND COL2=NVL(:VAR3,' ') AND COL3=NVL(:VAR4,' ') END-EXEC I am guessing that the ats.nvl has some reference to the NVL code inserted into my SQL statement by the precompiler. The V5.0 manual gives me no help.
