Control Characters in Informix thru ODBC

Hi all, I have Informix 7.23 UC1 ODS on my IBM RS6000 box, my question to you is as follows:- How do you insert a control character into a VARCHAR field in Informix using 1. DBACCESS 2. VB-5 thru an ODBC driver One of our programmers here was trying to update a varchar field with a string containing a carriage-return. He was successful in updating ONE such field, but the same SQL statement did not work with an update into TWO such fields in the same UPDATE statement. It gave an error of "Illegal attempt to use TEXT/BYTE host variable" Any suggestions ?? First of all, is it legal to insert control characters ( like ^M) into a varchar field ?? And how do I do it thru dbaccess ?
