If you are getting a GetServbyName(WSAO_DATA) error message from the winsock, then you need to check your "services" file. Here is a list of the MOST COMMON problem (faq, anyone??) * the port number is not unique for the service * the service name is not unique * a <EOF> on the same line (**I confess making this error soem time) if all this failed, check the services on the server side, though you shouldn't be getting <getservbyname> error in this case. * the port number must be the same as that on the client * if the service name is not "sqlexec", make sure you started SQLEXECD specifying the service name, or on version 6, have the service name specified correctly in the "sqlhosts" file. Otherwise, it could be a GetHostbyName error or GetHostbyNum error, then check the "hosts" file. * make sure the hosts name is unique * make sure the hosts IP address is unique * and, of course, <EOF> is not on the same line. Then, if all this failed, in which case you should't be getting a gethostbyname/num error, check the hosts file on the server side. I hope this helped.
