Hi all. I'm sorry for revive this old thread, but I'm having the same issue on IDS 7.31 over Solaris 11. (I know, nest solution would be update to IDS 12, but it's not possible, client won't do it). Any idea/suggestion? Thanks.
There's nothing you can do about it. Version 7.31 has been out-of-support since sometime in 2003 or so. You cannot get an updated version with a fix for this old bug. If the objection to upgrading to a modern supported release of Informix is financial, note to the client that considering the ancient hardware this server probably ran on originally (or perhaps still does) you could successfully upgrade them to version 12.10 Workgroup Edition with a two sockets license running up to 16 physical cores for less than $40,000 (less than $20,000 for a single socket machine) or to 12.10 Express Edition for much less than half of that. It may even be possible to run their database using Innovator-C edition with is free without support and can be used in production (they could get support for less than $3000/yr). It is highly likely that all of their existing software would continue to run unmodified and even without being recompiled. I've upgraded several v7.31 shops to the latest and greatest with no problems. One was even running old ESQL/COBOL applications that they could not recompile any longer (the ESQL/COBOL compiler no longer exists). Art Art S. Hi, I have used informix over solaris 8 long time ago, and I remember that it was necessary to do some tunning on system to avoid some errors. I use this settings on /etc/system file: set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax = 40000000 set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni = 180 set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg = 60 set semsys:seminfo_semmni = 320 set semsys:seminfo_semmns = 670 set semsys:seminfo_semmnu = 542 set semsys:seminfo_semmsl = 35 set msgsys:msginfo_msgmax = 2048 set msgsys:msginfo_msgmnb = 4096 set msgsys:msginfo_msgmni = 53 set msgsys:msginfo_msgtql = 140 I hope it helps, SP sergio.peres@airc.pt
Hi all. Thanks for your answers. As art said and I was afraid, it must be an old version bug. I'll try to make client see the need of upgrade, but no hope, I was doing it for the last 3 months :( I think tuning OS won't help. IDS is running over Solaris 11 and in the old system Solaris 10 worked fine. I've tuned kernel parameters as said in release notes for 7.31 & Solaris, but didn't get anything. Maybe an application small bug (i.e.: don't free cursor, don't close...) which doesn't raise problem in Solaris 10, but do it in Solaris 11. I have other DDBB migrated to this platform and no trouble, it just happens with one DB in one IDS which has other 2 DDBB into it, these 2 work fine! I know, best solution would be upgrade to 12.10 xC6, but it's not in my hands.
