Folks, We are installing a new Sun E6800 with Solaris 2.8 and IDS 9.31. The disks are on an EMC Symmetrix 2000. we are getting error messages when booting up with the EMC stuff and the following /etc/system file changes that IDS needs . Take out the /etc/system entries and the messages go away. Anyone have any ideas? Is there anything special that needs to go into the /etc/system file? I have not finished installing IDS yet so I don't know if it will work. The EMC volumes and files systems all seem to be there even with these error messages. Thanks for any info. - Lester 1. /etc/system additions for IDS -------------------------------- # Kernel params for IDS (informix) set semsys:seminfo_semmap=64 set semsys:seminfo_semmni=4096 set semsys:seminfo_semmns=4096 set semsys:seminfo_semmnu=4096 set semsys:seminfo_semume=64 set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=100 set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=268435456 set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=100 set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100 set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100 2. I'd look very carefully at the EMC documentation and see what values it recommends for the semaphore system. You need to make sure that both Informix and EMC's requirements can be met. You might also take a look at /etc/system to see if there are any other stanzas in there for the semaphore system - if there are two entries for a given parameter, I don't know if it is the first or the last that is taken. The error you're getting (2 = No such file or directory) indicates that the semaphore creation phase is failing, but the failure is not being spotted - there should be an earlier report if that failure. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Data Management 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!" |---------+-----------------------------> | | "Lester Knutsen " | | | <lester@advancedat| | | atools.com> | | | Sent by: | | | forum.subscriber@i| | | iug.org | | | | | | | | | 08/21/2003 06:42 | | | PM | |---------+-----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: ids@iiug.org | | cc: | | Subject: IDS /etc/system entries on Solaris 2.8 and EMC SYMMETRIX [1739] | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| Folks, We are installing a new Sun E6800 with Solaris 2.8 and IDS 9.31.
