I'd suggest you DO consider using ODBC, the OpenLink Multi-Tier driver in particular. It has one of the easiest client installs I've seen for any client/server middleware -- ODBC or native -- and generally produces better performance than native drivers or other ODBC drivers. I suspect you could easily make the Openlink installation a part of your application installation setup/install program. Especially if you use something like InstallShield.
