upgrade help

I'm preparing to upgrade from Informix version 1.10 to 5.0 and have some lingering questions that I can't seem to answer, so once again I bow before the collected knowledge of the net and pray for enlightenment. We are migrating all our database work to either an Altos 10000 or 15000. I will have 30 -40 Informix users on this system. MOST of them will be inserting/updating data into the various tables. We are a manufacturing/sales organization so the data is inventory levels, customer data, order_header, order_detail, shipping info, etc.. all interacting. In such an environment, do you think that th on-line engine is a necessity, or is the SE engine equivelent to the task? At this level of use, on the proscribed hardware, would the on-line engine offer perceptibly faster access to data? I suppose the REAL question is - Is online WORTH the $5000 difference as compared to SE? - and why?
