hello
Can anyone help me here
with the onstat -g ntt I can find any good description of the meaning of the
field below. In fact an explanation of all the q info would really be
appreciated
q-exceed
555/ 960
From sample below is this good or bad for q-exceed
global network information:
#netscb connects read write q-free q-limits q-exceed alloc/max
108/ 210 2838 5517261 5521250 31/ 134 135/ 10 555/ 960 136/ 0
Hi Karl,
From IBM Performance Guide v9.4, we can find this explanation on the
q-exceed field:
<<
output output field Description
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------
onstat -g ntm q-exceeds Number of times the free buffer threshold wasexceeded
format : current number / highest number
The q-exceeds field indicates the number of times that the threshold for the
shared network free-buffer pool was exceeded.
When this threshold is exceeded, the database server returns the unused
network buffers (over this threshold) to the global memory pool in shared
memory. Optimally, this value should be 0 or a low number so that the server
is not allocating or deallocating network buffers from the global memory
pool.
>>
So, q-exceed specifies the number of times which the network buffers queues
reached their limit. Ideally, should be close to 0, and it's suggested to
tune the network buffer queues by tuning certain parameters, explained in
the Performance Guide (NETTYPE included):
There is more information about how to tune the netwrok buffer queues on
this FAQ article:
How does NETTYPE affect the number of free network buffers in the IBM
Informix Dynamic Server (IDS)?
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21250845
To tune the network buffer pools, you can consult the Performance Guide of
IDS, looking for "Network Buffer Pools", here is the link for IDS 10:
Network Buffer Pools
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v10/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.pe
rf.doc/perf84.htm
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Veronica.
