Bharat asks: [...] my quez are : (as seen at page 236, Unleashed Informix by John Mc.Nally, Glenn Miller, SAMS Publishing) [...] >do we need this .... I mean actually this is a mirroring ... not a >replication enginee ... right? Had you bought Carlton Doe's book, the "Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Handbook", you'd know that "Unlike disk mirroring...Replication creates and maintains a complete copy of an instance on a separate physical server." >and also in replication ... we need not to replicate the whole database ... >only some tables ...and also the hardware and o/s are different ... .... > as I have seen in other databases ) >so any idea about this ... ? ... someone please help me on this ... You can do this several ways: Informix Enterprise Replication (formerly Continuous Data Replication) Praxis OmniReplicator Application code But NOT with High Availability Data Replication, formerly called just replication, and evidently described in the Sams book. >I already tried to get contact with the informix guys ... and also the >distributor here ...but they' were giving me quite funny answer and asking >more time for further answers ... Did you read the Informix web site? I found 100 hits on the word "replication", the first of which was a white paper on Enterprise Replication. Did you search the Informix documentation for information? A quick search revealed 54 occurrences of the word "replication", including a chapter of the Administration Guide entitled "What is Data Replication." Informix offers a course in Enterprise Replication. It is not trivial to configure, and can require application changes. I heartily recommend the course to people who are interested in replication. >what I need to know is : > - could we replicate some tables only > - do we need identical machine, o/s, equal space, etc > - how to do the setup ... we this this quite soon .. very soon And those actions would answer your questions. ___________________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clem@informix.com) Informix Software, Inc (Standard disclaimers apply) International Technical Support Last seen: Dodging hail, rain, and flood in Menlo Park.
