Not really. We use 8 and 4, 6 and 3 and have tested with 3 and 1. Checkpoints block the engine so nothing can proceed during a checkpoint. At least LRU writes are background so useful work can proceed. This gives OLTP systems a better "responsiveness". With low values for LRU cleanly checkpoints may take only a few seconds. The checkpoint writes are more efficient than LRU writes but that doesn't mean the engine dies as a result of LRU writes.
