Access is updating the entire row on the table, including the serial column.
That is the problem - you cannot.

If I start the same operation on SQL Server 2000 everything runs as expected! So, in my humble opinion it must be a failure of the ODBC driver!? Greetings, Andreas
Hi Andreas,

What exactly do you mean by edit a row? Are you running an update query or
opening the linked table from the tables list and using the table editor to
update the linked table when you have this problem?
I tried using the table editor on a linked table to my IDS 9.30 db using
CSDK 2.81 version of ODBC driver and also 2.70 version and did not get this
message unless I specifically tried to update the serial col. Only
difference other than server is that I was using MS Access 2002 SP2 (Office
XP).
Sounds to me like it might be a problem with version of Access you are
using. I have a version of MS Access 2000 on another machine at office so I
can try it out tomorrow. Also you may want to check which office service
packs you have installed for Office 2000. Could be a fix in a service pack
for this problem???
Anyway, I'll let you know what I find and if you have Office XP available
you may want to try it out.
