Our system here is a HP-Unix platform, system 10.01 with a max of 4GB per logical drive. We have our entire DB on one logical drive and running out of room. Idea was to move the tables over to another directory and have Informix point to the new directory for those select files (we're running SE). After calling Informix and hearing the word 'impossible' more than once I felt challenged. Investigation revealed I could do it with changing the dirpath field! Informix said it would be unsupported, then someone else over there said it would be supported. When my Ops Manager called he got the unsupported response and told me there has to be another solution... Well, then we tried symbolic links; same thing... Unsupported, supported flip-flop. Sigh. Posted a message here and found out about the CREATE TABLE..IN statement (which works awesome! Thanks to all!). Called Informix about it (my Ops Manager made me, can't blame him after the first 2 tries) and the response was "that's in the manuals?" and "where'd you get that?" But it does turn out to be supported! Spent the last day building and testing a ksh-script to do all the nasty work for me and it works exactly as advertised. Moral for this story: impossible means try harder and don't trust tech support. -Joseph "Movin' to the country, gonna eat alot of peaches..." - POTUSA, peaches
