We have an Informix-SE 5.0 database running on Windows NT 3.5, and are using
4GL 4.20 for Windows on Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with INET 5.01. The
problem is, whenever I want to run DB-Access, I have to go over to the
server and run it there. If the backend were on a UNIX box I could just
telnet in, but we don't have telnetd on the NT server, and I don't know if
it would work even if we did.
What I've been trying to do is get PISQL 4.10 (from the Informix-SE 4.10 for
DOS) working, but it doesn't seem to recognise the backend. It works fine
with a local database, but I get a -854 error (backend not found or busy)
just using INET 5.01 for Windows.
According to the INET documentation, ESQL/C 4.10 programs work with INET
5.01, and as far as I can tell PISQL 4.10 is an ESQL/C 4.10 program (it says
so in the binary anyway...). I've tried the 4.1 LDLLSQLW.DLL as suggested
by the INET documentation, but it still doesn't work.
Does anyone have any clever ideas? Do I have any hope of getting this to
work? Is there a better way?
Thanks in advance,
Scott
