using jdbc, loading a large row excessively slow
Posted in 2003
Hi List-members, I've written a jdbc application that loads a row of data into a table in an IDS 9.3 database. The jdbc is running on an xp box and the IDS server is running on redhat linux on a simple local area network. There are 13 custom datatypes in the row being loaded, totallying about 22M of data, and another 30 discrete columns (integers and varchars). From the point when the executeUpdate statement is started on the java client, to the point the first receive method of the custom datatype is called on the server is 9mins (ie, 540 seconds). If I transfer the data using ftp from the client machine to the server, it takes only 20 seconds. In summary, it taking IDS 27X as long to transfer data over the network. I've tried setting the lobcache to -1, but that didn't make any difference. Explanations and workarounds would be most appreciated. Thank you. Eric. ********************************************** Eric Davies, M.Sc. Barrodale Computing Services Ltd.
