Connect to IDS from Open Office 2.3.1
Posted in 2007
Art Kagel couldn't connect OpenOffice 2.3.1 (Windows XP SP2, CSDK 3.00) to IDS 10 on Linux via ODBC, getting "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed", even though the same DSN worked from RazorSQL, ilogin and setnet32. Suggestions were to use a System DSN rather than a User DSN, ensure the Windows user has admin rights, or bypass ODBC and use JDBC (ifxjdbc.jar on the OOo Java classpath, com.informix.jdbc.IfxDriver with a jdbc:informix-sqli URL). Another poster reproduced the identical setup successfully, but Art confirmed he already met the DSN/admin conditions and it still failed. No resolution is recorded in the thread.

My turn to need some help. I am trying to connect to an IDS database from Open Office v 2.3.1 using an ODBC connection. From this PC I can connect to the DB natively and I can also query the DB using RazorSQL connected via ODBC. I have created an ODBC connection in Open Office Data but when I try to connect from there I get the following ODBC error: The connection to the data source "sourcename" could not be established. [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed Does anyone have any experience with OO.o and IDS databases and can help? Art S. Kagel
You can't use JDBC? -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Art S. Is your ODBC connection defined as a System DSN or as a USER DSN? I watched a lot effects with User DSNs. With me OO 2.1 and Informix 3.31 32 Bit (quite old, but company standard...) and predefined System DSN ist working fine. Kagel Welcome to the M$ world... Are you running XP or Vista? Which version of the Informix Driver? I just tried from my XP, Informix Client SDk 2.90 and OO 2.2.1 and it worked connecting to IDS 10 on SuSE Linux. I have another PC with 2.3 and Vista and can try this as well. Michael

If you use JDBC, it works fine. 1) Make sure you have ifxjdbc in the classpath (Tools, Options, OOo, Java). 2) Make sure you leave OOo (even the small startup thing). Define a JDBC connection, as a reminder: Driver: com.informix.jdbc.IfxDriver URL: jdbc:informix-sqli://aang:9088/redlion_dev:INFORMIXSERVER=ol_aang;DELIMIDENT =y;DB_LOCALE=en_US.utf8;SERVER_LOCALE=en_US.utf8 (well this is mine...) jgp -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Art S. Two things to check: 1) Is this a System DSN or User (I always used System). 2) Does your Windows user have admin privilege on the PC. I'll keep you posted. Michael

Yes it's a System DSN and this is the default and only user for the machine, so yes to admin privs. Can't connect using OO.o Can connect using RazorSQL over ODBC or using setnet32, ilogin demo, and the ODBC configuration app. Art
