Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

You have several options:
1) Use a stored procedure to create an upshift function for use in SQL. There
is one
available in the informix faq http://www.iiug.org.
2) Add another field to the table that contains the data upshifted. Allow the
user to
using this field instead of the original, but display the contents of the
original field.
3) If you have version 4.12 or later of 4GL, use the AFTER CONSTRUCT
statement
to change the seach pattern from, say FrEd to [Ff][Rr][Ee][Dd].
I am sure there are several more.
