Newbie, >I am an Informix newbie. I am going to ask a question. >I have an Unformix OnLine 5.0 on HP9000 and I want to >run on PC an aplication to talk to my OnLine 5.0 db using >ODBC drivers. What I need on HP-UX (Informix-Star, Informix-Net >or something else)? > Thanks in advance. It will depend on the sort of ODBC connection you are using. There are basically 2 types of configuration: 1) I-NET and I-STAR 2) Proprietary network connection software. Generally the ones that use a proprietary mechanism are faster and provide more security features at the expense of complicating the process of upgrading your informix server products. The ones that use I-NET/I-STAR free you from the pain of worrying about upgrading Informix (perhaps with the exception of moving to V7). Can cause you problems with winsock.dll which has to be a particular version for the PC-INET side to work properly (at least in my experience). This can cause you problems with other software that access the net. Some ODBC drivers are easier to install than others. By the way, it is nice if you let people know who you are, and to put your address in the mail, so that people can choose to mail you direct when responding to your questions.
