Why does 7.3 read/write every 5 seconds?

I used to have 7.22 Personal Edition on my 266MHz Pentium II notebook, with NT4. I recently upgraded to 7.3 TC7, Developer Edition. Although the performance of the database server is more or less the same (my data is really small), the performance of the PC as a whole has dropped down. The Performance Monitor shows file read and write activity, every 15 seconds. The Task Monitor shows at the same time a 50% utilisation peak, that lasts for 2 seconds. It identifies the culprit as OnInit. This being an EIDE disk, the read and write more or less freezes the machine. Any ideas as to why OnInit wants to read and write every 15 seconds. There is no database activity what-so-ever. Checkpoints are happening every 300 seconds. Thanks Bashar Chalabi Card Tech Ltd, London
I don't know for sure, but here's how I would analyze it. There is a web site of some fairly neet NT tools - www.sysinternals.com. It has one tool called filemon. This will display IO requests system-wide. You could see which files were being hit every five seconds by running this tool. Shutdown the IECC Admin agent under services and see if you still get it. Bashar Chalabi wrote: > I used to have 7.22 Personal Edition on my 266MHz Pentium II notebook, with > NT4.
