Red There is an example (or wheel, if you will) to handle blobs in the Informix ByExample site. Go to www.informix.com, click on Informix ByExample and then click on Java/JDBC (I think, but its fairly easy to find). Now we're running into the nitty-gritty of implementation details -- like how to support text datatypes. Is there a special java/jdbc method or type for use of Informix's text datatype? There are severe SQL limitations in using this type, some of which are overcome in esql/c with its loc_t variable type. Is there something analagous to this in java/jdbc? Or, if somebody else has already tread this rut, would you care to share your wheel so we don't have to re-invent it?
The example at the byExample site, under JDBC/Other JDBC Examples/"Displaying Byte Images" does indeed have an example in which a column of type text is selected -- but the problem is with update and insert. There are no examples of this, nor any indication of how to go about solving this problem. I would suspect that an esql/c routine is required. I am using Informix JDBC Driver to connect to
Informix server 7.31. When I try to select a
Binary Blob Field (BYTE Data type ) I get the
following error. and the Informix server crashes!!
I cannot imagine why the server should crash?
Please let me know if any solution.
Thank you.
