Iconnect on Unix - need a server?

Hi all... My ignorance is showing here. In all the time I have been an Informixer (sic) I have always done servers on Unix and clients on windows or clients on Unix where there was also a server. I now find myself with the need to do a Unix client with no db. Unix tool to connect to an Informix database elsewhere. It looks to me from my reading that the Unix sdk (or Iconnect) requires an engine to work. Well, I have plenty of Solaris server software but in this case, the client is AIX and I have no engine licenses for AIX. Am I reading things correctly and I would need a db server running for the client to do do a connection? Thanks... Doug McAllister

You just need iConnect (or the SDK which includes iconnect also) installed and the sqlhosts file setup properly, then the usual environment variables and you're done. Art S.
