If your C++ program is running on a separate machine from the database server there is no faster way then modern high quality ODBC drivers for most cases. Socalled direct drivers aren't usually any faster. Often they are slower. See the FAQ for info on ODBC drivers. If your program is running on the same machine as the database server using ESQL/C may possibly be faster than ODBC (or CLI or UDBC as it is often reffered to on Unix servers).
