> Suppose every chunk has a mirror ready and waiting > > Chunk Mirror > online1 m_online1 > online2 m_online2 > . . > . . > . . > > How easy would it be to make this happen. > > Does the database need to be down? > If it does should it be relatively simple to setup the mirroring. yes this is relatively easy to do. the MIRROR flag has to be turned on in your on(tb)config file, and for that you will have to bring the server down and back up. if your chunks are already set up via the os, (correct size on the disk partition, user-group informix, and 660 permissions), then just go into on(tb)monitor, select Dbspaces, select Mirror, and then cntrl-b for the dbspace that you want to mirror. then just enter the information for the new chunk, and away you go. i don't remember if you then need to go into Status and change the status for the dbspace, or if it is part of the above operation. i believe that it is. note that you have to mirror all the chunks in a dbspace, so if you have 10 chunks, you need to partitions of equal size. you are, in effect, mirroring dbspaces, and not chunks, by this restriction. hope this helps. mickm
