HP symbolic links to raw devices

Our hp unix admin says creating a symbolic link to a raw device causes a panic in the hp os. How can i get around this so that i have symbolic links instead of direct addressing for the character devices ...

This sure doesn't happen in my HP-UX 10.20. Something is wrong w/ your OS or your admin. You want to point the sym link at the character-special file (the one with "c" as the first char in an ls -l). NOT the one that begins w/ a "b".
