ontape-testing the tapes by restoring to a different platform?

i've recently had problems with corrupted tapes. I was thinking about restoring to a different, less expensive server to test the validity of the tape. I currently do this from one intel server to another, but I have an Alpha system to check. The scenario is; Dec Alpha 4100 running OSF1 v3.2 and Informix Online v5 backup using ontape to DLT device. Data volume approx 8 Gbytes Check DLT using Intel server running SCO OS 5.0.4 and Informix Online V5 withe necessary instance/devices configured to restore from tape.
