RE: Datawarehousing in Informix

We have been using Informix Online Dynamic Server for over a year on a = Datawarehouse Project. Our fact table has approx. 350 million rows. We = have been very pleased with Informix's parallel data query capabilities. = =20 Our strategy for the first phase of the project was to rebuild the = database every weekend. That included reloading all of our dimensions = and our 350 million row fact table. We also built 12-14 aggregates as = well. Informix's ability to allow for table fragmentation has allowed = us to make the most of our Sun 6000's CPU and disks. Informix's data loading utility, the High Performance Loader, is also a = very critical piece in our database. We have not seen other databases = that can load data as fast as this. Granted we have not spent a lot of = time with other database except for Sybase and a little Oracle. HP = loader can load 16 million rows in around 15 -20 minutes. It has taken time getting the right configurations and learning the = intricacies of the engine, but overall we are very pleased. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Am currently evaluating it against Oracle's offering of Oracle8 and = Express. Both positive and negative experiences would be appreciated. thanks in advance *************************************************** Victor Tan BNP Singapore thianlengvictor.tan@bnpgroup.com ***************************************************
