Q.Cursors with hold closed by commit/Temp tables disappear.

Hi all Has anyone come across a situation whereby a cursor declared with hold calls a function which commits. The called function appears to close the cursor. A workaround was tried whereby a while loop and a temp table were used. But the temp table disappears also on the return from the function which commits.
