Re: Page cleaner error

If you are getting page cleaner time-outs, you're most likely running version 5.x of On-Line. In that version page cleaners have a timeout value of 120 seconds. Meaning the page cleaner has 120 seconds to get it's work done (ie. clean from LRU_MAX_DIRTY to LRU_MIN_DIRTY, checkpoint, etc.) when the page cleaner times out the process dies and thus you have 1 less cleaner for LRU writes. (writes between check points) If you do an tbstat -F you'll see one in an error condition. If you run out or low on page cleaners and the LRU queues become full then an sqlturbo has to write enough pages to disk to free space for the pages it needs (big delay to users). I think Informix put this timeout in there to indicate there is a tuning issue (that's what I've heard). Things that can help are adding more LRU queues, more page cleaners, decreasing the difference between min and max dirty. btw, version 7.x uses threads for page cleaners and do not time out.
