free sblob metadata

IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.70.FC5 How can I tell how much Metadata space is free? We have a rolling 12 month transaction log so at the beginning of each month I detach and drop the corresponding month for the previous year. I can see blob space being freed up but the corresponding Metadata space doesn't change. Either onstat -d isn't working correctly or the Metadata space isn't being freed up. Nothing has crashed recently but I would rather not wait until it does. Help please?
