HP AND INFORMIX INTEGRATE LEADING-EDGE TECHNOLOGIES TO DELIVER COMPREHENSIVE, INTELLIGENT INTERNET SOLUTION Industry Leaders Respond to Internet Evolution with Integrated Commercial Web Solutions via HP Domain Enterprise Servers and Informix Universal Web Architecture PALO ALTO, Calif., (Jan. 16, 1997) -- Hewlett-Packard Company and Informix Software, Inc. today announced that the Domain XE line of HP Domain Enterprise Servers will be pre-integrated with the Informix Universal Web Architecture, a move that would extend HP's Internet and intranet solution with industry-leading, object-relational-database capabilities. This collaborative offering from HP and Informix is designed to address directly the evolution of the Web from a collection of simple-text files to a wide variety of interactive multimedia applications that support dynamic-content management. The integration of the HP Domain platform and the Informix Universal Web Architecture is expected to enable businesses to obtain all the tools they need to create media-rich, dynamic, manageable Internet applications from a single vendor. In addition, Informix announced that its INFORMIX-Universal Server database is slated to be available on the Domain XE platform later this quarter and that it has chosen the HP 9000 as a primary development platform for INFORMIX-Universal Server. Together, Domain XE and the Informix Universal Web Architecture provide a fully integrated line of Internet servers that deliver the most powerful, versatile and manageable business-ready platform for information access, collaboration and core business-transaction solutions. By integrating the HP Domain Business Suite -- which is based on Netscape SuiteSpot technologies -- and the Informix Universal Web Architecture, Domain XE can deliver a pre-assembled, pre-installed solution that eliminates the extensive engineering needed to integrate hardware and software technologies from multiple vendors. With this pre-integrated, collaborative solution, businesses will have the ability to evolve along with the Net, creating and managing dynamic Internet and intranet applications for such new-breed applications as dynamic-content management, the Web and electronic commerce. "HP and Informix are providing a hardware and software solution that will enable organizations to develop the next generation of enterprise-class Internet and intranet solutions," said Allen Bonde, director of Internet Computing Strategies for Yankee Group, a Boston-based market research firm. "This collaboration has a great deal of potential because it addresses both the demand for more intelligent, personalized Web-applications and the growing need to manage systems, networks, applications and Web content within a single solution." "Today and continuing into the future, the effective use of Internet technologies will further distinguish one service provider from another," said Len Hanlock, chief information officer for DHL. "At DHL, we are in the business of delivering information, on time, every time. We currently work closely with all three organizations and welcome this collaborative effort by HP, Informix and Netscape to provide businesses with a comprehensive Internet and intranet solution from a single vendor.
