I've been wishing for years for a number of *improvements* to the Informix 4gl, such as: variables beginning with letters I thru N are Integers all others are reals begin each statement in column 7 Say, why not bring back the "program sheet" and write all programs by hand by filling out each little block? use line numbers for code printouts and GOTO's ((maybe some parentheses, (like they have in LISP...))) how about "level numbers" for defining records and variables? Have a punch card option available. I always liked sorting cards. Get real, guys. I try to recommend programming in accordance with the examples in "4GL BY EXAMPLE", just because it is something everyone in the "community" has seen. Trying to mold informix into a COBOL shape is as bad as trying to map all the unix commands into AS/400 menus (yes, we know you're doing that, too. Real programmers use *commands*.)
