An Oracle DBA needed to do emergency maintenance (wanting tbcheck) on an Informix database under SCO 3.2v5.0.2, but couldn't find tbstat/onstat — he was looking in /usr/informix/lib/tools, which only held 4GL compiler pieces and libraries. Replies pointed out the DBA utilities live in $INFORMIXDIR/bin (check PATH includes it), that SE installs may only have bcheck, and gave ways to identify the engine: ONCONFIG implies IDS 7.x, TBCONFIG OnLine 4/5, neither SE; also check running processes (sqlexec = SE, tbinit/sqlturbo = OnLine 4/5, oninit = OnLine 7). The poster never confirmed the outcome.

Hi,
I am an Oracle DBA trying to perform some emergency maintenance on an
Informix database on SCO 3.2v5.0.2.
I don't seem to have any tools I can use such as Tbstat and onstat.
I cd to the /usr/informix/lib/tools directory but it contains files
like i4glc1, ..., i4glc4, and a whole bunch of files with ".a" as an
extension, e.g. libsperf.a and lib4gl.a and also lib4gsh416.so
Do I need to expand these files and perform some type of install? If so,
how do I do that? Also I have only 400MB free on the server, is this
sufficient?
Thanks,
Dinesh
Hi!
Check what you have in /usr/informix/bin. All programs should be there.
What kind of maintenance are you performing?
Please post more info.

I believe there are space issues. I want to run Tbcheck.

Hi!
1) If you have tbcheck in /usr/informix/bin verify the PATH (should have
/usr/informix/bin)
and try to run it. If you don't specify any options if will respond with help
info.
2) If you need more information, search www.informix.com for documentation.
If you have specific question e-mail me directly.

If this is an Informix Standard Engine (SE) you may only have bcheck in
/usr/informix/bin. If you do not even find that utility you may be
looking in the wrong place. It may be that the development tools were
installed in a different directory from the engine, unusual but possible.
At any rate ANY Informix installation defines the environment var
INFORMIXDIR and all of the DBA tools will be in $INFORMIXDIR/bin.
Other clues: If ONCONFIG is define this is probably IDS 7.xx, if TBCONFIG
then probably OL[45].xx, if neither then this is surely an SE database.

Look at the processes running on the box
1 sqlexec process per user = Standard Engine
tbinit + 1 sqlturbo per user = Online 4/5
tbinit + no sqlturbo = online 7 started using tbinit (v.
rare)
oninit = Online 7
