Once you've made these changes manually, don't expect uninstall to work correctly, unless you also change the many references to the server name in the unisntall section of the registry. An easier way to rename an instance on Windows (depending on how much data you have) would be to create a new instance with the new name using the Instance Manager (instmgr.exe), export the data from the old instance, delete the old instance with Instance Manager, and import the data to the new one. In the next major version of IDS (10.0) the Instance Manager will have a rename instance feature so the above methods will no longer be necessary. There's a set of utilities for Informix on NT that used to be called "ntutils" that used to be downloadable from the IBM/Informix website. It renamed servers and a lot more. File name was ntils.zip. I did a quick search of the IBM website and didn't find it. If anybody else knows if this file is still downloadable, please post an URL. If you can't find it, send me an email and I'll email you a copy. Joe Lumbley
